Mize, 88, homemaker and "best friend," went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2006, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel. Burial: Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that any donations be made on her behalf to Eastern Hills United Methodist Church, 1509 Wilson Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76112. Dorothy was born March 10, 1918, in Ardmore, Okla. Soon after her birth, her family moved south and made Texas their home. Throughout her life, Dorothy raised two children, as well as a host of family and friends. She became one of several founding members of the Kennedale ISD Parent-Teacher Organizations and was a charter member of both Ash Crescent and Eastern Hills United Methodist churches. Dorothy was a devout Christian and remained active in many different church roles until late December 2005. Her hobbies included gardening, playing "42," dominoes and walking the path of righteousness. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bryan Mize; children, Gary Latimer and Diane Gantt; and granddaughter, Jill Hinesley. Memories of Dorothy's love will flourish in all who knew her. "Granny, You have been my 'rock' for many years. I can only imagine that I will live to become a fraction of the person you were in my lifetime. You and I have laughed together, cried together and talked for hours and hours into the many, endless nights. You leave behind a void in my heart that time and love could never fill. Today, I say goodbye to you, my best friend. I will always love, honor and cherish your memories. Love and prayers, Brad." Survivors: Grandchildren, Brad Gantt, Kristan Ledbetter (Angel), Amie Gantt and Dean Latimer (Stacy); great-grandchildren, Ashley Hinesley, Kriztofer and Paris Ledbetter and Trent, Chase and Dalen Latimer; son-in-law, John Gantt (Kris); special friends, Barbara Gormley, Lee Tramer and Frances Terry; and many, many other family and friends.
