Daily Ardmoreite March 29, 1963 pg 1 Fox Man Dies Of Injuries A 47-year-old Fox man became Oklahoma's 154th traffic fatality of 1963 Friday morning when he died from injuries received in a Sunday night accident in Healdton. L.C. Smart was taken to St. Anthony's hospital in Oklahoma City Monday in a coma. He suffered brain damage, doctors said. Paul Edward Phelps, 35, of Fox, driver of the car in which Smart was riding. died at the scene. Highway Patrolman Don Henley of Healdton, who investigated the accident, said the men were thrown out of the 1961 Ford on a curve on SH 76 in the south part of town. The car went over a 12 foot embankment, buy did not overturn. Funeral arrangements are pending at Bettes Funeral Home, Healdton. Smart, L. C. Daily Ardmoreite March 31, 1963 pg 4 L.C. Smart ---Fox, Oklahoma Funeral is to be at 3 p.m. Monday from the Fox Pentecostal Holiness Church for L.C. Willard Smart who died March 29 in an Oklahoma City Hospital of injuries received in a one-car accident. Burial will be at Graham. An employee of the Northwest Oil Co., Smart was born Nov. 22, 1915 at Duke. He is survived by his wife, Maudine; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Chamber, Enid; Pam, Three sons, James, Charles and Dennis, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Roxie Smart of Duncan; a brother, Marion, Longview, Texas; six sisters, Mrs. Oda Ogden, Alamagardo, N.M.; Mrs. Mildred Lang, Mrs. Dorthy Green, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Letha Ellis, also of Long View, and Miss. Reva Smart, Duncan. Also two grandchildren. Bettes Funeral Home of Healdton has charge of arrangements.
