All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Resurrection Memorial Cemetery--OKC OK Sledge, Virginia Nell Virginia Nell Sledge passed away Sunday, August 28, 2005 after a brief illness. She was born April 13, 1924 at Amerada Community located Southwest of Ardmore, Oklahoma to C.W. (Bud) and Ethel Sledge. After graduation from Plainview High School in 1941, she worked briefly for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa before proudly enlisting in the United States Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1953. She retired after 30 years of Federal Service at Tinker Air Force Base. Virginia was a long time member of the Mayfair Church of Christ. She was an avid worker and supporter of the Oklahoma City Women's Bowling Association for over 50 years and was inducted into the Oklahoma City Bowling Council Hall of Fame in 1978 and was also inducted into the Oklahoma State Women's Bowling Hall of Fame in 2002.She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Nita June Sledge Day, of Grandfield, Oklahoma. Survivors include brother-in- law, Clair James Day, of Grandfield, Oklahoma; brother, Charles W. Sledge and wife Billie of Kingwood, Texas; sisters, Bobbie Sledge of Roseville, California, and Mary Sledge of Oklahoma City; nieces Linda Bell and husband Bob of Cumming, Georgia; Diana Hunt and husband Chris of Grandfield, Oklahoma, and Sandy Peters of Kingwood, Texas; nephews Chuck Sledge and wife Cyndie of Colleyville, Texas; Phillip Day and wife Lina of Jakarta, Indonesia; six great nieces and nephews and four great great nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and loved ones and remembered for her generosity and thoughtfulness of others.Services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mayfair Church of Christ, 2340 NW 50th St under the direction of Hahn-Cook /Street & Draper Funeral Directors with interment at the Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, 7800 NW Expressway. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Mayfair Church of Christ Mission Fund in memory of Virginia Nell Sledge.
