Thomas, 89, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Funeral Home Chapel. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Stella was born in Gary, Ind., but grew up in north Fort Worth and called Texas home. She attended Diamond Hill High School, where she was an A student. She played basketball, volleyball and softball and won numerous medals in track. During the Great Depression, she polished and sold apples at Woolworth and was a cashier at the Isis Theater in Fort Worth. Later she worked with her husband in the asphalt business and at Stromberg Carlson. Stella lived in Ardmore, Okla., for 50 years and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church before relocating to Corpus Christi in May 2005. A wonderful homemaker and mother, Stella loved church, swimming and getting together with family and friends. Her seven-course picnics are legendary. She will be missed greatly by her loving family and many friends. Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Eva Kuba; daughter, Susan Claudette Thomas; brother, John Tatarevitch; and sister, Anna Meeks. Survivors: Husband of 71 years, Ewell V. Thomas; sons, Lowell V. Thomas and wife, Betty, of Corpus Christi and Quentin M. Thomas and wife, Suzie, of Woodstock, Ga.; sister, Mary Sparks of Fort Worth; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
