Watkins Passes Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ at Graham, Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock for John David Watkins, for 50 years a resident of Oklahoma. Luther Killingsworth conducted services, with Dale Funeral Home of this city in charge with the following friends as pallbearers: Tom Barnwell, L. C. Johnston, Tom Harris, Charles Knight, Pete Krueger and Joe Carter. Deceased was born in Shannon County, Missouri, Feb. 2, 1873, and died December 8, 1939. He was known in the Graham community. Survivors include his wife, several children and one sister. Printed 1939 in "The Healdton Herald" in Carter Co., Oklahoma. Background information: Survivors of John David "Dave" included his wife Laura, sons Monroe and Colbert, daughters Eunice, Odie/Odar and Lynn, his sister Rebecca W. "Becky" Nordman Fowler, and brothers Caswell Warren "Cas" Wadkins, George Franklin "Green" Wadkins, Thomas William "Tom" Wadkins, and Alexander "Alec" Wadkins. Dave was born to Jesse W. Wadkins and Susan McGehee; he moved with his family from Shannon Co., Missouri to the Red River Valley of north Texas in 1882-83, moving to Chickasaw Nation about 1885. His mother died between 1900 and 1909 in Carter Co.; his father died and was buried December 9, 1917 in the Graham cemetery.
