Zinsmeister, Mary Maxine Lamb Mary Maxine Lamb Zinsmeister 82, of Tucson, AZ and formerly of South Bend and Carmel, Indiana died on January 25, 2007. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 29th., 3:00 p.m. at Desert Skies United Methodist Church, 3255 N. Houghton Road in Tucson. Internment of her ashes will follow the service in the Desert Skies Memorial Garden alongside her husband, Herbert F. Zinsmeister who died in 2002. Maxine was born March 31, 1924 in Brock, Oklahoma, the hometown of her mother, Verda Clayton. Maxine grew up in Carmel, Indiana, the birthplace of her father, Herbert Lamb. She studied at Purdue University where she met her husband of 58 years, Herbert Frank Zinsmeister, Jr. On Herb's return from duty with the Seabees during WWII, they made their home in Carmel, Indiana. Subsequently, they lived in the suburbs of Detroit and Chicago before moving to South Bend, Indiana in 1966. They moved to Tucson in 1979 where Herb continued to work as a professional engineer. In Tucson, Maxine continued her Masonic involvement through the Sabbar Shrine auxiliary organizations. She had leadership roles in the Band-Aides, Daughters of the Nile and the Ladies Oriental Shrine. An active member and leader of the P.E.O. Chapter E in Tucson, she enjoyed the chapter friendships and the support of the women's education. An avid golfer, she actively participated and led the Catalina Women's Golf Association and the Dorado Women's Golf Association as well as the Tucson Roadrunner's Golf Association which sponsors the Girls Junior Golf Tournament. Her enthusiastic support for Purdue and University of Arizona sports teams was legend. Maxine was involved with the Methodist Church from the early years of her marriage and continued that commitment in every community where she lived. She loved music and enjoyed singing in community variety shows as well as church choirs. She will be remembered for her good humor and great capacity for sustained friendships. She always had an opinion to offer as well as any necessity from her golf bag or handbag. All who knew her will miss her lively disposition, sharp wit and empathetic ear. She is survived by her children, Karen Getman (Geneva, Switzerland), Eric Zinsmeister (North Bend, Oregon) and Betsy Kiley-Knox (Cincinnati, Ohio) as well as her sons-in-law, Steve Knox and Tom Getman; grandchildren, Torie Zinsmeister Clancy (husband Brian), Mike Zinsmeister, Kelsey and Will Kiley, Justin, Adam and Eric Knox, Andrew, Eliza (husband Jonathan Burns) and Tim Getman and four great- grandsons, Bennett Clancy, Noah, Aidan and Luke Burns. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to a charity of your choice, Desert Skies United Methodist Church in Tucson, the Shrine Burn Center through the Sabbar Shrine, the Tucson Chapter E of the PEO or cancer research.
