S. DEPUTY MARSHAL KILLED April 2, 1886-The Cherokee Advocate- A Deputy Marshal by the name of Richardson was killed one day last week in Saline District by one Pigeon. It is reported that Richardson, who was a stranger, approached Pigeon with his revolver in his hand, and did not even tell Pigeon who he was or what he wanted. Pigeon, not knowing what it meant, drew his revolver and fired killing the Marshal instantly. An officer should always make known his business before approaching a stranger in such a manner. Undoubtedly Pigeon thought, he was simply defending himself against an enemy. Pigeon did not know there was any warrant against him and he had not been scouting.
