The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ====================================================== Submitted by Terrill White on 4Mar2008 Bessie Mae (Horn) Morris Guthrie TAHLEQUAH – Bessie Mae (Horn) Morris Guthrie departed this earth to be with the Lord on Feb. 25, 2008, in Mountain Pine, Ark. at the age of 99 years, 5 months and 17 days. She was born the third of nine children – five boys and four girls, on Sept. 8, 1908 in Stigler, to Henry Horn and Nora (Moudy) Horn.Bessie attended school at the Old Buckhorn, which later moved closer to the Illinois River and is also where her children attended grade school. The school is now under water from Lake Tenkiller. Bessie married Thomas Morris at 19 years of age. Thomas died six years later, leaving her with two young daughters. Bessie later married a most wonderful man, William Guthrie, who took her children as his own and together they had five additional children. William had a difficult time making a living for such a big family, but never complained. He worked as a farmer and in construction, or whatever he could get, to help financially support the family. Bessie made the best biscuits and pies, and did the sewing for her family.After 69 years of marriage, William passed from this life on June 8, 2004, which was a terrible loss for Bessie and all of her family.Bessie was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Nora Horn; an infant son, Jimmy Guthrie; two sisters, Crystal Robertson and Ollie Risley; five brothers, Kelly, Lawson, Roy, Jim and Paul Horn; and three grandchildren, Michael Reed Nail, Kathryn Nail Stacey and Jerry Ward. She is survived by her daughters, Eunice (Morris) Nail and husband, Thomas “Tic”, Sue (Morris) Parker and husband, Nobel, and Mary L. Guthrie; her sons, Bill Guthrie, Paul Guthrie and Tommy Guthrie and wife, Linda; a sister, Helen Parker; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; nine great, great-grandchildren; and numerous extended relatives and friends.Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Reed-Culver Chapel with Brother Ferrell Horn and Brother Donald Robertson officiating. Burial followed at Cookson-Proctor Cemetery.Pallbearers included Jack Nail, Nolen Long, Joe Nail, Matt Guthrie, Shawn Guthrie and Ryan Guthrie.
