Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hulbert under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah. Viewing will be held at Reed-Culver Funeral Home until service time. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Kerry D. Spears, Eddie Spears, John Alan Spears, Greg Reeves, Scott Reeves, David Spears and Austin McCarver. Mr. Spears was born Jan. 12, 1906, in Hulbert, Indian Territory, the son of Eli Day and Alice B. (Chestnut) Spears. He was an original Dawes Commission enrollee of the Cherokee Nation. He died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at the age of 99 years, 9 months, 23 days. A life-long Cherokee County resident, he worked as a mechanic, serving as shop foreman for Galey-Hargis Dodge DeSoto and Greenhaw-Eddings Ford, and retired as owner of Spears Chrysler Dealership. On Aug. 2, 1925, he was married to Theta L. Kile by J.W. Beck in Tahlequah. They were happily married for 70 years and eight months. Mr. Spears was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Theta L. Spears; two brothers, John Albion and Jesse T. Spears; one son, Blynn I. Spears; one daughter-in-law, Lavada Spears; one grandson, Randy Joe Spears; and one great granddaughter, Michelle Spears. Survivors include two sons, Jack Spears and wife Brenda of Tahlequah and Zack Spears and wife Lucy of Okemah; one daughter, Norma Reeves of Austin, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Margie Spears of Tahlequah; 17 grandchildren, Kerry Spears, Eddie Spears, Lisa Thrower, Robert Spears, Greg Reeves, John Alan Spears, Susanne Parker, Scott Reeves, Patti Ayala, David Spears, Donna Jonson, Patricia Spears, Adam McCarver, Austin McCarver, Kendra Spears and Keri Spears; 24 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
