Dave was born in Tahlequah on July 3, 1929, to Nettie Jane Thornburg and Dave Marsh. He attended schools in Hulbert. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served in the Korean conflict. After discharge from the Army, he married Alice Virginia Sanders and worked, for a time, on construction of the Fort Gibson Dam. Dave then attended Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee and graduated with a Diesel Engineering Degree. Upon graduation, he worked on construction jobs in North and South Dakota, where he joined the Masonic Order #164. Dave then moved his family south, helping to construct dams in Tennessee and Oklahoma for the Tennessee Valley Authority. In 1966, after working for I.E. DuPont and Company in Nashville, Tenn., for three years, he moved his family, Sonja Lee (Sunny), William Austin (Bill) and David Allen (Davy) home to Hulbert and settled near the Lost City area. Dave assisted in the building and construction of Cherokee Nitrogen N-Ren Corporation in the Mid-America area in Pryor and later joined the company as Maintenance Supervisor. He retired after 20 years of service. After losing his first wife, Dave married Mary Lee Furr on Feb. 26, 1990, and expanded his family with three new daughters: Darla Sweet-Behr of Lutz, Fla., LaRee Medina of Oklahoma City and Diana Barnes of Wagoner, along with a host of new relatives and grandchildren. The family belongs to the First Baptist Church of Hulbert, and hobbies include running a 140-acre farm and rent houses, hunting, raising cattle, hogs and horses and traveling. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alice; and son Bill, all of Hulbert; two brothers, Alvin of Sunray, Texas and Sam of Collinsville; and two stepdaughters, LaRee Medina and Dianna Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee of the home; children, Sonja and Ernest Shepherd of Tahlequah, David and Rhonda Marsh of Newalla, and Darla and Kevin Behr of Lutz, Fla.; brother Dick of Holly, Colo.; three sisters, Leona Copeland of Coweta, Betty Jane Williams of Broken Arrow and Linda Stopp of Tahlequah; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, at First Baptist Church in Hulbert, with Rev. Glen Rowan officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Brandon Marsh, Randy Dale Shepherd, Timothy Medina, David A. Marsh, Cody A. Marsh and Dustin Todd Hall. Services will be directed by Reed-Culver Funeral Home. 117 W.
