Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. *************************************************************** TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS TAHLEQUAH, OK MARCH 21, 2002 DOVIE MELINDA RICHEY Tahlequah-Funeral services for Dovie Melinda Richey, 81, of Tahlequah, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2002 at the Peggs Community Church with Rev. Rex Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow at the New Home Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jerry Stevens, Robert Cummins, Dennis Carter, Douglas Smith and Jason Smith. Honary pallbearers will be Richard Carter, Mark Allen Cummins, Joe Reynolds, Jackie Osburn, Gearld Barnhart, Mike Collins, Jeff Collins and Steve Collins. Dovie was born July 31, 1920 at Proctor, the daughter of Cornilas (Neal) Neugin and Mary Jane (Harlin) Hartness, and passed from this life on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at her daughters home in Vinita, after a long illness. She was a lifetime resident of Gideon Community. She attended Sequoyah Indian Training School and graduated from Tahlequah High School. Dovie married Melvin Richey on May 29, 1939 in Fayetteville, Ark. She was employed by Lake Region Electric Coop for 31 years and retired in 1989. Dovie enjoyed singing and music as well as sewing, gardening and bird watching. She enjoyed her family and helping when she was needed. Dovie was well liked and was a blessing to everyone who she knew. Dovie was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, in 1969; two brothers, Ross and Pleasa Neugin; and two sisters, Rose Brewster and Margie Browning. She is survived by four daughters, Jane Williams of Tahlequah, Velva Stevens and husband Dawes, of Peggs, Melba Smith of Vinita and Roberta Collins and husband Henry, of Vinita; two sisters, Wilma Vandella Goforth and husband Leroy, of Willits, Calif., and Lucille Napier of Salina; as well as 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and loved ones.
