Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ *************************************************************** The following Obit submitted by Terrill White in Dec 2003 and rewritten By County Archivist. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Published in a Tahlequah Newspaper in the 1970 Fromer Cherokee County Cler, Christian (Chris) GULAGER, 42, died Friday in Muskogee Veterans Administration Hospital after a long illness. He was Active in the rodeo circle. He served seven years as county clerk until he resigned because of illness in 1967. Funeral servies were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Reverend Henry Watkins and Reverend Olen Rainwater officiating. Burial was in Miller Cemetery. Pallbearers included Mige Glory, Leo Stinnett, Carol Fuller, Troy Moss, Jhonny Baker and Wayne Dobson Gulager was born August 30, 1928 in Cherokee County. He was a long time resident of Cherokee County, living at the old Gulager home. A U. S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was president of the Tahlequah Round-up Club, a member of a(could not make out the name) lodge in Hulbert and The Cherokee Lodge 10, AF&AM in Tahlequah. In connection with his interest in Horses, Gulager assisted youth rodeo promotions and formation of drill teams. Survivors included his wife, two sons, three daughters, a brother, his mother and step-father. Note added by Terrill White [terrillwhite_5@msn.com] Gulager was a Relation of Will Rogers and was from a very prominent family in Cherokee County. His son went on to become one of the most popular county commissioners and he himself was very well known for his work with rodeos and county work.
