Greg Hall officiating. Pallbearers were Levi York, Jim York, Neal Briggs, Jason Davis, Kyle Briggs and Nathan Fain. Honorary Pall bearers were Danny York, Fred Haddock and Wesley DeMoss. Interment followed in the Park Hill Cemetery under care of Green Country Funeral Home. John was born the son of James C. "Jim" and Viola May Smith York on Dec. 30, 1927, at Park Hill. He departed this life on June 3, 2005, in Fort Gibson. Born and raised at Park Hill, John attended area schools. He served in the U.S. Army, then the U.S. Marine Corps. On Dec. 18, 1950, he married Melba York in Orange, Calif. Following his retirement from the USMC in May 1968, John worked and retired from the Orange Unified School District in Orange, Calif., after 18 years of service. Following retirement, John and Melba lived in California and Oklahoma. John has been preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richard and Dale York; two brothers, Henry and Vernon York; and a sister, Ruth Qualls. He is survived by Melba, his wife of 54 and 1/2 years; a son James York and wife Delores of Salina, Kan.; two daughters Dianna Briggs and Kathleen Fain both of Keys; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patsy Haddock and husband Fred of Muskogee, and May DeMoss and husband Wesley of Keys; several relatives from North Carolina; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends and loved ones.
