Gary Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Casketbearers will be Billy Unruh, Mike Vaughn, Earl Finley, Reuben Talley, Richard Welch and Jimmy Robinson. Laveta Gay Layne was born to Otis LeRoy and Hazel (Malaham) Horton of Blackwell, Oct. 6, 1941. She lived in Foraker, and later graduated from Shidler High School in 1960. Laveta met James Benjamin Layne while he was in the service, and they married Nov. 5, 1960. They were based in Kileen, Texas, until 1965 and then returned to Tahlequah. Laveta started working at First National Bank in 1967 and worked there for 25 years. She went from a bookkeeper to assistant vice president, and retired in 1992. James retired and they then decided to purchase a semi-truck and trailer to travel across country. When she was not traveling, Laveta would fish, make wood crafts, work her gardens and plant flowers. She was always remodeling something or making some kind of trinkets. We will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents. Laveta is survived by her husband of 44 years, James; one daughter, Teresa Deckard and husband Tracy; one son, James Layne II and wife Anita; seven grandchildren, Tera, Kasey, Chance, Justin, Sarah, Derrick and James III; and one brother, David Horton.
