Charley Ford officiating. Burial will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Hulbert. Services are under the direction of the Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Pallbearers include Marvin Morgan Jr., Brad West, Avery Rogers, Matt Laster, Bub Jenkins and Danny Whitekiller. Honorary pallbearers include C.V. Jenkins, Mike Jenkins and Bobby Joe Jenkins. Melvin James West was born Aug. 11, 1925, in Bonham, Texas, the son of Leo and Ida Belle (Fields) West and he departed this life on Sunday, April 28, 2002, in Wagoner. West grew up in Texas and moved to the Fort Gibson area to help build the Fort Gibson Dam. He had lived on Norwood Mountain most of his adult life and was a heavy equipment operator in the construction business. He was a member of the Fort Gibson Church of Christ. West was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Aaron West; twin children, Plez and Pleazatine West; and the mother of his children, Elda Baldridge. He is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Melva Ruth Ford and husband Ron, of Hulbert and Janelda Gower and husband Gary, of Tahlequah; two sons, James and Danny West both of Muskogee; nine grandchildren; five great- grandchildren, along with many other relatives, loved ones and friends.
