Myles Wilson Scoggins, 86, died on Monday, April 4, 2005, at St. John's Hospital, Tulsa, following a brief illness. Wilson was born March 23, 1919, in Norman Park, Ga., to A.C. and Pearl (NeSmith) Scoggins, and grew up in Georgia and Florida. A longtime resident of Bartlesville, he retired in 1981 as a senior research chemist, following 25 years of employment with Phillips Petroleum Company. Prior to joining Phillips, Wilson taught chemistry at Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tenn., from which he graduated, and which also recognized his contributions to the university by appointment to its Hall of Fame in 2000. Wilson was also a 20-year resident of Bella Vista, Ark., and has resided at Go Ye Village, Tahlequah, since 1998. Wilson is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Carol Woolsey Scoggins of Tahlequah, and originally of Bristol, Tenn.; two sons, Bill of Houston, Texas, and Bob of Jakarta, Indonesia; a brother, Bob of Kingsport, Tenn.; and three grandsons, Robert of Nashville, Tenn., Michael of Tulsa, and James of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Cleveland and Betty Scoggins, Martha Moersch and Francis Stratton.
