Burial followed at the Tahlequah City Cemetery. Pallbearers were David McCollum, Tommy McCollum, Gene Carter, Bill Dudley, Sam Lamons and L.D. Jones. McCollum was born on June 27, 1904 at Sallisaw, Indian Territory, the daughter of A.B. and Alice (Bird) Marrs, and she passed from this life on September 14, 2002 at her residence in Tahlequah. McCollum grew up in Sequoyah County and attended school at Price Chapel and Central High School in Sequoyah County. Rubye started teaching school with an eighth grade certificate, around 15 years old. She attended Northeastern State University in the 1920's. Rubye taught school in Sequoyah County, Westville and in Cherokee County at Keys, Ryder and Owen. She married William Howard McCollun Sr. in 1932, and together they owned and operated McCollum Grocery Store. Rubye was a member of Grace Baptist Church, and taught the Women's Sunday school class. She was an active member of WMU. She loved reading, gardening, traveling and was interested in her family's genealogy. Rubye was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Howard Jr.; three brothers, James B. Marrs, Jack I Marrs and Albert Marrs; two sisters, Eunice Beavers and Betty Chaffin. Among those she leaves behind are her daughter, Lou Alice Mahaney and her husband Bert, of Tahlequah; daughter-in-law, Jewel K Houser; two sisters; Ima Rogers, of Tahlequah and Lois Williams of Lawton; six grandchildren, Janice Mahaney of New Orleans, LA, Nancy Mahaney of Tucson, AZ, Richard Mahaney and wife Brigitte of Sunland, CA, Lisa McConnell and husband Jeff of Oklahoma City, Laura Metclaf and husband Patrick of Haines, AK and Kathleen Jones and husband Darren of Derby , KS. Seven great-grandchildren, Adam, Zack and Mathan Metcalf, Blaine Jones, Emma and Elizabeth Mahaney, and Kate McConnell as well as many friends and loved ones ************************************************************************ http://www.usgwarchives.net ************************************************************************
