January 13, 1939 Scott Downing Funeral services were held at the Moody Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for Scott Downing, 57, Cherokee Indian, who died at the Hastings Hospital Sunday night, after several weeks of illness. Downing was distirct court baliff and had been promient in Indian affairs in this section for many years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs Nancy Downing; a son, Edgar Downing, deputy sheriff of Cherokee County; two daughters, Carrie, a student in high school; Clara, a nurse at Hastings Hospital; two brothers, Moody Downing, Tahlequah and Brice [Downing] of Hutchinson, Kansas. Services were conducted by Rev. Jim Pickup and W.B.
