John Bond's family were Choctaws who were removed from Mississippito Indian Territory on the Choctaw Trail of Tears. They most like arrived in the winter of 1832 and first settled along the Red River. John was a Senator of the Choctaw Nation Council in Tuskahoma. His family were the original ancient Mississippi temple mound builders. His descendents are now known as Oklahoma Choctaws. John, Lucretia, and their children are some of the "original enrollees": of the "Final Rolls" of the Five Civilized Tribes now commonly referred to as the Dawes Rolls. The removal of the Choctaws from their native home lands (now known as Mississippi and Alabama) began as early as 1830 and would take almost three years to "remove" the indigenous peoples known as the Five Civilized Tribes. This was the FIRST HOLOCAUST. The 350 mile journey would decimate thousands. The survivors would call the journey, THE TRAIL OF TEARS. This was an ill-conceived plan of then President Andrew Jackson, a well known antagonist of the Native Americans. The US Calvary that escorted the tribes were provided with ample supplies, the Indian was often herded from their homes with only enough time and opportunity to gather a few belongings. They were plagued by disease, starvation, and inclement weather. Most of the territory was wild and uncovered, and the most of the emigrants were on foot. It was not uncommon for them to walk half a day through waist high water in a swamp. This forced removal ended with families arriving at their destination ill, bedraggled, and mourning the deaths of their loved ones. John Bond is listed as one of the Leading Men and Women of the Indian Territory www.choctaw-web.com John and his family are listed on this site as follows: BOND,John,Choctaw,b.1853,WadeCo father: Issac Bond uncle: Anonchubba wife: Lucretia West b. 1844,daughter of Joseph West of Mississippi (Cherokee) children:Willie,Henry,Ida,Susan, and an infant Do not stand at my grave and weep;I am not there.
