Burial was in Farris Community Cemetery. She was a great-granddaughter of Patsy GOINS and Eli CROWDER, who settled among the Choctaws before the War of 1812. He married first Margaret DURANT and then Patsy GOINS, fathering large families with each wife. Ophelia CROWDER was born November 10, 1895, in the Choctaw Nation near Hugo. She married Jay Birchfield. Preceeding her in death were: her father, Martin B. Crowder, who died in 1969 at the age of 98; all of her siblings and almost all of her generation of friends and relatives; her husband, who died in 1960; most of her children (John, Elmer, Eula Nowlin, Lee, Edgar and several infants); and a number of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Alene and by her two youngest sons, James and Bunnie.
