The family moved to Frogville, Oklahoma when she was three years old where she attended Lakeview School. At the age of thirteen she joined the Saint James Baptist Church and was baptized in the Red River by the Rev. James Birmingham. In 1940, Mr. Young moved the family to Idabel, Oklahoma and their family united with the First Baptist Church under Rev. M.A. Curry. Mable graduated from Booker T. Washington High School on May 23, 1943. She received high honors and was also the Valedictorian of her graduating class. On August 19, 1943, Mables cousins L.D. Bailey and family were moving to California and Mable decided to come too. She believed she would find Gold in them hills. Delano, California became their new home and later she did find Gold when she met Mr. Bennie Wesley Brookins and they were married August 29, 1946. In 1947, Bennie and Mable opened their own restaurant and they were real original when they called it Mables Place. The success of the restaurant afforded them in 1949 to start a second business, which they named Bennie Brookins Trucking Company. Their decision to close the restaurant in 1951 allowed them to devote their lives entirely to the trucking business. Attending church was a joyous part of Mables life and she worshipped at several churches until she united with Saint Paul Baptist Church in 1955 under the leadership of Rev. Brown and soon after Rev. R.B. Moore. In that same year they bought their first home at 1824 Dover Place where they lived when in Delano. After the death of her mother-in-law, Minnie Ola Brookins in 1964 and both her parents in 1965, she started traveling with her husband in the trucking business. The Bennie Brookins Trucking Co. made a mark also in Blyth, California; therefore in 1972, they built a second home where they lived while in Blyth. During the times Mable lived in Blythe she attended the Saint Paul Baptist Church under Rev. Eugene McConnell. In 1972, she became a member with a letter of permission for dual membership at both churches for Rev. R.B. Moore in Delano, CA. She was very active in the community and church. She was the past secretary of N.A.A.C.P., member of the Delano Planning Commission and The Women Republican Organization. Also, a member of the Elector Chapter #8 in Tulare, California since 1976; Secretary of Mable V. Gray Progressive Club for four years and President from 1968 to 1974 and then elected Vice President until her death. In her church she was an active mission worker in both Lydia and Matrons Circle and then in 1990 the Senior Mission. The several things that she donated in the church down through the years will be remembered. She was also a faithful member with the giving of her time, talents and Christian love. Her love stretched as far as giving resources to young people in her family and others when pursuing their education and dreams. During the last 8 years, Mable frequently resided in Delano due to her health. The family wishes to express the gratitude to Dr. Sadegh Salmassi, her primary physician and Dr. Jose Soto, surgeon and their caring employees. Also, the staff at the Delano Regional Medical Center, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and UCLA. Mable leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 56 years, Bennie Wesley Brookins of Delano, CA; her sister, Ollie Mae Clemons, Compton, CA; her brother, Rev. Isaiah Young and wife, Charline Young of Tehula, Mississippi; her sister-in-law, Barbara Young of Tulare, CA; her father- in-law, Johnny Brookins of Hallsville, Texas; stepdaughter, Benetta Reeves of San Bernardino, CA; stepgrandchildren, Benjamin Reeves, Brian and Brianna Brookins of San Bernardino, CA. She was like a mother to Rev. William Edward of Bakersfield, CA, Johnetta Brookins-Williams of Bakersfield, CA, Isaiah Young Jr., of Flint, Michigan, Lawanda Mack of Blythe, CA, Howard Young of Delano, CA, Gastova Diaz of Sacramento, CA, Gail and Sean Young of Tulare, CA, Godson, Marlin Wiley of Simi Valley CA; and her devoted friend of 55 years, Elizabeth Wiley of Delano, CA. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding her in death, her sister, Homer Lee Inghram, brother, John Henry Young, stepson, Bennie Brookins, Jr., parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Ponolar Young, mother-in-law, Minnie Ola Brookins and brother-in-law, John Brookins. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you was the Golden Rule that Mable Rozetta Brookins lived daily. She was blessed as a child of God in life and was happy to give back. Therefore, her generosity with both her time and resources did not stop only with her family members but continued with anyone in need. We will truly miss her caring spirit, genuine love for her fellow man and her unconditional love for her husband, family and friends. Mable did find Gold in them Hills many times over and now she is resting peacefully in Gods arms and someday we shall all see you again Mable at them Golden Gates.
