All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Bakersfield Californian Hazel Lee Casteel Services: Mon., Dec. 17, 11 a.m. Viewing and visitation to begin Sunday, December 16, 2001, at 1:00 p.m. with an hour of meditation to be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Ruckers Mortuary for Hazel Lee Casteel, 80, who passed away December 11, 2001. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Temple Church of God In Christ, 1028 O Street. Dr. E.V. McGee will be officiating with interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hazel Lee Casteel was born in Hainesville, Louisiana. The family moved to Boswell, Oklahoma where she received her elementary education. Later she met and married Cornell Felton Casteel, Sr. of Idabel, Oklahoma. Eight children were born to this union. Hazel was a born again Christian. She was a past member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Heavenly Gate Church of God In Christ, and Tinity Temple Church of God In Christ. At the time of her illness she was a member of Lily of the Valley Church of God In Christ. She was committed to her Christian duties. As a licensed Missionary, she participated in outreach programs in jails and the Bakersfield Rescue Mission. Mother Casteel was an ardent worker in the church: serving on the Mothers Board; as a teacher in the Sunday School Department; the Sunshine Band (where she was lovingly known as Big Sister Sunshine; and serving as the President of the California Valley Executive Hospitality Board. She loved the work of God faithfully leading the Prayer Board, and serving on the Pastors Aid Board until her health failed. Preceding her in death were her father and mother Willie Stinson, Sr. and Pearl Chancy; sisters, Dorothy Turner, Helen Stinson and Arzella Sirls; brother, Willie Stinson, Jr.; and her son, Robert Casteel. She leaves to mourn her homegoing Cornell Casteel, Sr., her husband of 62 years; her children, Raheem Casteel, Jan Casteel- Fleury and husband Darrell, Kenneth Casteel, Cornell Casteel, Jr., Darryl Casteel and wife Nantha all of Bakersfield, CA, Brenda Joyce Casteel-Bell and husband Raymond of Monrovia, CA, and Larry Casteel of Hawaii; a sister, Imola York and husband Earnest of Oakland, CA; fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The Family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to her caregivers for over 13 years of service at the California Care Nursing Facility, with a special thanks to Donna Jackson, who gave her extra loving care.
