Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 825 California Ave. with inerment to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. View-ing and visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2003, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Ruckers Mortuary, 301 Baker Street, with meditation being held from 7 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Velaska Hunt Carter passed away August 1, 2003, in Bakersfield. She was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, on June 5, 1922, to the union of Jodie Hunt and Josephine Henry Hunt. She was employed as an elementary teacher in the Bakersfield City School system. She was a member of St. Paul CME Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Henry and sister, Jodie Mae Smith. She is survived by five sisters and one brother: Mrs. Clemmie Owens (Harry), Mrs. Genese Jones (Jack), Mrs. Eunice Jones, Dr. Margaret K. Williams, Mrs. Mary Alice Dulan and Harry T. Walters (Carolyn) and also a special niece, Kathryn Ann Shaw (Chris), Josephine and Javin. Special friends, Mrs. Sylvia Harris and Mrs. Mayola Beverly.
