Francis (Papa Harv), 83, of Grants Pass died Friday, April 16, 2004 at Three Rivers Community Hospital. A visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2004 at Redwood Country Church. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. with Pastor Tom Harvey officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2004 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Oregon Right to Life, 4335 River Road North, Salem OR 97303. Harvey was born September 6, 1920 in Soper, Oklahoma to Eva and Henry Edward Francis. On August 4, 1940 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas he married Annie L. Atkins. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the Philippines. After the war, they made their home in Southern California. In 1955 Harvey attended California Baptist College in Riverside, California and in 1957 he moved his family to Lee Vining, California which is located in the heart of the High Sierra's. In 1958 he was ordained as a Southern Baptist Minister in Hawthorne, Nevada. In 1962 he moved his family to Ashland, Oregon. Harvey worked for Pacific Power Company in Medford and also served as interim pastor for various Southern Baptist Churches including Ashland, Phoenix, Glendale, and Gold Hill. In 1976 he moved to Grants Pass where he continued to work for Pacific Power & Light until his retirement in 1982. He was active in church ministry and mission building in Hawthorne and Tonopah, Nevada and also served in various Christian ministries throughout the High Sierras. His hobbies included singing, storytelling, nursing home ministry, bible study, prison ministry and he especially enjoyed motorcycle riding. He was a charter member of the Southern Oregon Bird Fanciers; a 50-year member of I.B.E.W. Local #18; and joined the Christian Motorcycle Association where he served as chaplain for a few years. In addition to his wife of 63 years, Annie L. Francis of Grants Pass, he is survived by two sons, Charles Monroe Francis of Medford; and Gary Ray Francis of Trail; a daughter, Dotty Ann Pantle of Eugene; a brother, Charles Rudolph Francis of Ore City, Texas; four sisters, Leadie Mae Garner of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; Dorothy Ellen Green of Nash, Texas; Martha Ann Ambro of Williams; and Betty Jo Suggs of Arkadelphia, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Choctaw County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/choctaw/choctaw.html
