All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Oakdale Cemetery--Glendora CA Hunnicutt, Joseph Clarence "Red" In Loving Memory of Joseph Clarence "Red" Hunnicutt Aug. 1, 1916 - Nov. 15, 2006 Joe died peacefully on Tuesday, November 15, 2006 surrounded by his family in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital at the age of 90. "Red" was born August 1, 1916 to Joseph and Zoe Hunnicutt in Swink, Oklahoma and was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sister Jesse Viereck of Hemet, CA. Joe served in the Army in WWII from 1942 through 1945 as a radio operator stationed in Cairo, Egypt. When he returned to the States Joe joined the Glenoaks VFW (# 3868) in Charter Oaks, CA and worked for several years at Harper & Reynolds, a wholesale hardware company, as a salesman serving the San Gabriel Valley. In 1964, he began working with American Wholesale Hardware where he remained until his retirement in 1983. He sold hardware supplies over a huge growing area and made many friends during his travels.In 1947 he met and married the love of his life, Helen Martin. They were married 42 great years until she passed away in 1989. Joe and Helen were members of the Covina United Methodist Church for many years and when he retired they moved to Paradise CA where they became members of Paradise United Methodist Church. Joe is also survived by his children, Donald (Jan) Tatman of Clarkdale AZ, Roger Hunnicutt (Paradise CA) and Lori (Jeff) Herman of Ballard CA., together with 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Not long after Helen passed away in 1989, Joe moved to Santa Barbara and later to Ballard CA where he made daily visits to the Burger Barn in Santa Ynez, and Paula's Pancake House in Solvang with his beloved care-giver, Deyanira Velasco. His granddaughter Julie Michaels and her husband, Darren, of Los Olivos, CA, were always at his side, as were his granddaughter, Adrienne Herman and his grandson and namesake, Joseph Herman, of Ballard. Joe never lost his sense of humor and was the kindest, most loving man. He is an irreplaceable friend, brother, husband, father and grandfather. Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21 at Oakdale Cemetery, 1401 S. Grand Ave., Glendora, CA. For additional information please call Joe's daughter Lori at 805.686.7960.
