All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Duncan Banner 3 Apr 2002 Albert Otis Smith Albert Otis Smith, 66, of Comanche departed this life Saturday, March 30, 2002, in Duncan after a brief illness. Service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Stephens Baptist Church with Mr. Smith’s brother, the Rev. Curtis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Henderson-Harris Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home in Duncan. Mr. Smith was born on Oct. 5, 1935, in Boswell to David and Velma Pettis. He was the oldest of 13 children. He married Lula Mae Dodd in 1961 in Duncan. She preceded him in death on April 8, 1978. He married Joy Smart in 1985 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Smith was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Duncan for 18 years, retiring in 1985. Prior to that he worked for Rocket Oil Company and was a jailer for the Stephens County Jail. He was an avid bird dog trainer and did very well. He received many trophies and certificates of excellence for the dogs he trained. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother of Fredrick; two sons, Otis Martin of Indianapolis, Ind., Melvin Martin of Duncan; a daughter, Shirley Chigundeni of Indianapolis; seven brothers, Leonard, Burnis, and Marion Smith all of Fredrick, Ollie and David Smith of Dallas, Texas, the Rev. Curtis Smith of Oklahoma City, Charles Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Doris Pierce of Wichita Falls, Texas, Marilyn Johnson of Fredrick; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his wife, Joy of Duncan; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Cecil and Ardell; and a sister, Mary Lee Smith. Bearers will be Eugene Davis, Leonard Smith, Marion Smith, Ollie Smith, Burnis Smith and Josh Martin.
