All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Welk, Dorothy Loraine 1916-2007 Dorothy Loraine Welk went into the glorious presence of Almighty God on Friday, Aug. 17, 2007. She watched many Billy Graham crusades on TV and knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was born Dec. 27, 1916 to Julian and Nora Ola Persons. Her best childhood memories were leaving her birth home of in Hugo, Okla., in a covered wagon as her family headed for Corpus Christi, Texas. Through no choice of her own, Dorothy became a single mother during the Depression, when times were tough for everyone. She worked two jobs to support and care for her two sons, Don and Dale, who were born only 11 months apart. After moving west, she worked for 20 years in the pharmacy section of a Fred Meyer store in Portland. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and all six of her siblings, as well as one grandson. She is survived by her two sons, Don Nunley and Dale Nunley; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and a wonderful friend, Darlene Scherer. She had eight wonderful years in Yakima at Englewood Garden Apts. She loved to play bingo as much as possible. Two days before her death, she gave her Beanie Bag treasures to her granddaughters who had come to visit her. She will be greatly missed by all of her extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 25 in Portland. Keith & Keith Funeral Home of Yakima is entrusted with the arrangements.
