William was born April 30, 1918 to William and Edith Martin in Boise City, OK and was raised in Bisbee, AZ. He graduated from Bisbee High School in 1937, and served in the U.S. Calvary in the South Pacific in World War II. William worked for Phelps Dodge, Southern Pacific Railroad, and owned and operated Martin's Barber Shop. He was loved for his sense of humor and the stories he told, and was very knowledgeable of Arizona history. William was preceded in death by his wife Edith Jane Martin. He is survived by his daughters Joan Marie (Jim) Roney; grandchildren Amanda (Roland) Elgey, Katie (Jeff) Booty, Melanie (Barry) Zwillinger, Bill (Stephanie) Roney; and 8 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 15 at the National Memorial Cemetery, on Pinnacle Peak Rd., 1/4 mile East of Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Zwillinger's Home, 7424 E. Desert Cove Ave., Scottsdale, AZ 85260. Memorial contributions may be made to the VA Medical Center, 650 E.
