All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Greenlawn Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA Bakersfield Californian Thomas Raymond Ray Nobles Services: Thurs., Mar. 28, 11 a.m. Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1705 17th Street on Thursday, March 28, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. for Thomas Raymond Ray Nobles, 90, of Bakersfield, who passed away March 23, 2002 in Bakersfield. Private family interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Mr. Nobles was born to Thomas and Laura Nobles in Griggs, Oklahoma on November 19, 1911. Ray was a graduate of Goodwell College in Oklahoma. He married his childhood friend and sweetheart, Hortense, in 1940. He was a high school principal and coached sports for four years in Oklahoma. Then during WWII, he served in the Army Air Corps in Rantoul, Illinois and in India. After the war, Ray and Hortense moved to Bakersfield where Ray taught for 29 years with the Panama Union School District. He gave his life to the Lord in high school and later he and Hortense became active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Bakersfield. Ray enjoyed woodworking, golfing and coaching basketball. He will always be remembered by family and friends as a gentleman and as a loving and devoted husband and father. We will miss his laughter, his generous spirit and his quiet strength. He is survived by his wife, Hortense; daughters, Marilyn Nobles of Columbia, MD, Paula Crissman and her husband, Paul, of Bakersfield and Alysia Newmark and her husband, Gary, of Fresno; grandchildren, Robb Walt of Phoeniz, AZ, Melissa Jensen, and her husband, Brian, of Redwood City, CA, and Sarah and Christopher Newmark, of Fresno; and his brother, Owen Nobles, of Eufala, OK. Visitation starts today at noon.
