She was born November 25, 1901 at Rocky Springs, Mississippi. Nell grew up in Miss. in the care of her grandparents after the death of her mother when she was two. During her teens she was sent to a girls' boarding school where she completed one year of college. The offer of a teaching position brought Nell to the Oklahoma Panhandle. She taught primary grades in country schools for several years. In 1925 Nell married William F. Noble. The couple settled in Boise City, Oklahoma where two daughters were born. In 1938 the family moved to Springer, New Mexico where a third daughter was born. In Springer, Nell established and operated Noble's Department and Variety Store. The business served the people of the small towns, farms and ranches of Northeastern New Mexico for 42 years. Next to rearing her daughters, Nell's store was her proudest accomplishment. Nell came to Washington in 1985 to be near her daughter, Elaine. For the next 15 years she lived independently in her home in Lynnwood, WA, tending her garden and being Grandma to her many offspring. With eyesight failing, she moved into Merrill Gardens in Mill Creek in 2000. She celebrated her 105th birthday there last November. A fall and a broken hip a few days later led to complications and eventually to her demise. All of Nell's eight siblings; and her husband of 54 years preceded her in death.
