All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Garrett Cemetery--Cimarron County OK Amarillo Globe News 30 May 1997 Edmund Pendleton Tapp Jr. BOISE CITY, Okla. - Edmund Pendleton Tapp Jr., 86, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Boise City with Harold James and Derek Cox officiating. Burial will be in Garrett Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary. Mr. Tapp was born near Liberty in Clay County, Mo. He attended Mosby Country School and graduated from Liberty High School. He then attended William Jewell College in Liberty. He married Minerva Lucile Thomason in 1932. Mr. Tapp was born to a prominent family of cattlemen and developed an early interest and proficiency in the cattle industry. By the age of 16, he sold two loads of cattle, which he had fattened out on the Chicago market, and at the age of 19, he won a trip to the ninth annual 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. After his marriage, he and his wife lived in southeastern Nebraska and raised cattle. They moved back to Clay County and operated a service station and restaurant for a few years. During the 1940s, he was a cattle buyer for Producers and Texas Livestock Marketing Association in Kansas City, Mo. While living in Clay County, they were active in 4-H work and served as project leaders while their sons were 4-H club members. In 1949, Mr. Tapp moved his family to a ranch near Kenton. In 1951, he began the first cattle feedlot that operated in Cimarron County. Soon thereafter they moved to Boise City, and he continued to commission cattle buying throughout the southwest. After trying to raise cattle in southwestern Colorado, they returned to Boise City and purchased a ranch that has been their home since. They continued to develop a large cattle business specializing in certified Beefmasters. After retiring they lived in Chapala, Mexico, for about three years. Since 1989, Mr. Tapp had lived on the family ranch. He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Kenneth Lee Tapp. Survivors include seven sons, Robert "Bob'' Tapp, Roy N. Tapp and Charles L. "Putt'' Tapp, all of Boise City, Harold B. Tapp of Carlsbad, N.M., James P. Tapp of Lubbock, Texas, Frank E. Tapp of Portal, Ariz., and Paul W. Tapp of Hurst, Texas; 23 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
