All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== :IOOF Cemetery--Norman OK Norman Transcript 23 Jul 2003 Arabella (Yates) Amonette Arabella (Yates) Amonette, 78, of Norman died Wednesday, July 23, in Norman. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with the Rev. Scott Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at the Norman IOOF Cemetery. Havenbrook Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Amonette was born Sept. 27, 1924 in Williamsburg, Miss., to Charles Abner and Nancy Mooney Yates. Her parents died when she was young and she was raised by her grandmother. She graduated from high school in Williamsburg in 1942. She then moved to Monroe, La., and lived with aunt and uncle Ruby and Harry Snider. She married Air Force Lt. Billie Amonette in 1945. They moved to Oklahoma in 1950 and Mr. Amonette worked for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. They moved to Miami in 1952 and moved to Norman in 1967. Mrs. Amonette became a member of the Norman Newcomers Club in 1967 and is a past president. She was a youth leader in MYF at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist in 1968 and 1969. She was active in the University of Oklahoma Student Foreign Exchange Program. She worked the past 10 years at Tinker Air Force Base. One of her proudest achievements was becoming base real property officer. Mrs. Amonette was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra Layne Amonette; and brother, Kenneth Yates. Mrs. Amonette is survived by her son, Rocke Lynne Amonette and wife, Linda, of Norman; brother, Winston Yates and wife, Marguereite, of Alabaster, Ala.; grandchildren, Carrie Layne Amonette of Ballwin, Mo., and Porsche Lynne Taylor and husband, Jamie, of Norman; great-granddaughter, Jeannie Marie Taylor of Norman; sister-in-law, Mary Anne Yates of Corpus Christie, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
