All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Norman Transcript 2 Dec 2003 Homer John Beattie Homer John Beattie, 81, of Norman died Sunday, Nov. 30, in Norman. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norman with the Rev. Edward Menasco, celebrant. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Norman. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Mr. Beattie was born pril 30, 1922, in Antigo, Wis., to Homer C. and Catherine Beattie. He joined the U.S. Army-Air Corps, right out of high school in 1939, before it became the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a weather forecaster during World War II. He then became an instructor and cross-trained into education and training. Mr. Beattie served 21 and a half years with the U.S. Air Force. After retiring in 1963, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for nine years, concluding 30 years of government service. Mr. Beattie was a patient at the Norman Veterans Center for four and a half years. Mr. Beattie was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Major Richard F. Beattie; son, Richard Michael; and only daughter, Bonnie Lynn Beattie Compton. Survivors include his wife of almost 56 years, Evelyn of the home; brother, Bernard “Buzz” and sister, Nona of Wisconsin; two sons, John Beattie and wife, Priscilla, of Norman and David Beattie and wife, Jan, of Edmond; and five grandchildren, Melissa, Nathan and Sophia Beattie and Stacy and Shelly Compton.
