Services are pending with Havenbrook Funeral Home. ========= Norman Transcript 16 May 2003 Jason Michael Bates Jason Michael Bates, 19, of Norman died Wednesday, May 14, in Norman. Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oklahoma City Family Church, 8300 S. Santa Fe Ave., with the Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman. Havenbrook Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mr. Bates was born June 2, 1983, in Norman, to Michael David and Wendy Sue Mettenbrink Bates. He grew up in Norman and graduated from Norman High School in 2002. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies included golf, playing pool, camping and the outdoors. He was an artist and enjoyed writing poetry. He was a member of Oklahoma City Family Church. Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Billy Bates. Mr. Bates is survived by his parents, Michael and Wendy Bates of the home; sister, Jessica Marie Bates of Norman; grandparents, Carole and Gary Antene of Oklahoma City, Gloria and Tim McDermott of Norman and Herb and Mary Mettenbrink of Grand Island, Neb.; great-grandparents, LaVern and Lona Shalberg of Norman; aunts and uncles, Charles Anthony and Beverly Bates of Dallas, Todd and Cathy Mettenbrink of Oklahoma City and Troy Mettenbrink of Grand Island. Bearers will be Jeff Tahsuda, Brent Sexton, Tyler Holland, Tony Bates, Nick Jones and Austin Young. Honorary bearers will be Mr. Bates’ close friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jason Bates Memorial Trust at the Oklahoma City Family Church, 8300 S. Santa Fe Ave., Oklahoma City, 73139.
