Blevins Tom L. Blevins died Wednesday April 13, 2005, after a courageous eleven- month battle with cancer. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15, 2005 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M, Saturday, April 16, 2005, at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman with the final resting place at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Scotty Williams, John Wall, Kevin Kelleher, Mike Gonzales, Tracy Rye and John Lupin, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Darrel Stout, Dr. William R. Patten, Dr. Jayson Hemy, Dr. Richard Brock, Dr. Rick McCurdy, Dr. Jeffrey Nees and all of the volunteers who helped to complete his dream home. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma. Tom was born August 7, 1938, in Lamar, Colorado to Oscar and Zelda Mae Blevins. He majored in Electrical Engineering at OU. After college, he was employed by the Norman Transcript as a prize winning photojournalist. He began his career as a part time assistant in the Transcript’s photo department. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to full time and later chief photographer for the newspaper. During his tenure at the Transcript, he mentored a half-dozen student interns giving the novice photographers invaluable experience. He also oversaw a number of technical advances in the newspaper’s photo department and initiated the photo-feature Sooner Scene, which has appeared for years on the Sunday Editorial page. He left the Transcript to open Pro-Am Photography in 1975. Tom was considered a visionary in the video and computer age, becoming the first Apple Computer retailer in Oklahoma. He loved sharing his expertise in photography with others, especially his marvelous images of sporting events. Tom did many successful things in life but photography was his most lasting legacy. His camera artistry knew no bounds. He was a master homebuilder and artisan. He loved stain glass, gardening, cooking and especially building his dream home for his and Linda's retirement. Tom is survived by his wife, Linda K. Blevins, of the home; six children, Cheryl Rye, Nancy Blevins, Judy Blevins, Steven Blevins, Scott Blevins and Ben Blevins; Linda's four daughters, whom he accepted as his own, Angela Keith, Beth Schroeder, Christina Ingram, Paula Todd; eleven grandchildren, T.K. Rye, David Blevins, Christina Blevins, Daniel Blevins, Brandon Keith, Andrea Martindale, Sharla DeFrange, Amy Scott, Spencer Ingram, Bryce Ingram, Paul David Buening; three great grandchildren, Kindall Keith, Courtney Keith, McKenzie Martindale; two brothers, Jack Blevins and Jerry Blevins; two nephews, Richard and Robert Blevins; and niece Margaret Blevins.
