Blackburne Sr. Vurl W. Blackburne, Sr., 81, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Norman Regional Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M, Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with Reverend John Gifford officiating. Interment will follow at the Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Terrence Blackburne, Andrew Blackburne, Vurl W. Blackburne III, Brian Vancrum and Peter Kelly. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma. Mr. Blackburne, Sr. was born March 28, 1924, in The Dalles, Oregon, to George W. and Alma (Harper) Blackburne. He grew up in Oregon. He served with the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base where he worked in Quality Control management. Mr. Blackburne, Sr. was a member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Norman and a member of Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Blackburne, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, and wives, Violet I. (Mashburn) Blackburne in 1980, Gladys (Scott) Blackburne in 1997, and Mickey (Martin) Blackburne in 2004; three sisters, Georgiana Gunkel, Norma Casey, and Audrey Schaefer, all of Oregon; and grandson, David Blackburne. Survivors include his two sons, Vurl W. Blackburne, Jr. and wife, Meeky, of San Antonio, TX and Terry D. Blackburne and wife, Elizabeth, of Norman; two brothers, Roger and Paul Blackburne, of Oregon; two sisters, Dorothy Robinson and Patricia White, of Oregon; grandchildren, Vurl W. Blackburne III, Michelle Blackburne, Jane Vancrum and husband, Brian, Terrence Blackburne, Julia Kelly and husband, Peter, and Andrew Blackburne; and four great-grandchildren.
