Services are pending with Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. ========= Norman Transcript 29 Oct 2003 Barbara Joan Byers Barbara Joan Byers, 49, of Norman died Sunday, Oct. 26, in Oklahoma City. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Edward Menasco officiating. Burial will follow at the Norman IOOF Cemetery. Havenbrook Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mrs. Byers was born April 25, 1954, in Glendive, Mont., the oldest of 16 children born to Daniel Charles and Beverly Anne Griffin Palen. She spent much of her youth tending to and caring for her younger brothers and sisters. She grew up in South Dakota and Madison, Wis. She graduated from Madison High School in Wisconsin. She lived in Dallas and Ottumwa, Iowa, before moving to Oklahoma City in 1980 and moving to Norman in 1989. She married Gary Byers April 22, 1989, in Norman. Her life revolved around her family, especially her children. She was raised Catholic and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norman. Mrs. Byers' family said she was a loyal and true friend to those she loved. Mrs. Byers was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Byers is survived by her husband, Gary of the home; sons, Wade and Joe Byers of the home; daughter, Shelly Byers of the home; step-daughter, Carly Byers of Norman; parents-in-law, Charles and Dixie Byers of Norman; brothers and sisters, Mary Palen of Moore, Martha Palen of Moore, Pattie Palen Marshall of Houston, Peter J. Palen of Davenport, Iowa, Daniel C. Palen Jr. of Ottumwa, Gail Palen Griffiths of Moline, Ill., Gerard Palen of Oklahoma City, Thomas A. Palen of Ottumwa, Judith Palen Shepherd of Ottumwa, Theresa Palen Livingston of Ottumwa, James G. Palen of Ottumwa, Newell E. Palen of Ottumwa, Nancy Palen Bishop of Ottumwa, Stephan A. Palen of Ottumwa and Richard S. Palen of Olathe Kan.; and 37 nieces and nephews. Bearers will be Mrs. Byers' brothers, Pete, Danny, Tommy, Gerard, Stephan and Richard Palen. Honorary bearers will be Wade and Joe Byers, Robb Marshall and Trevor Palen. Memorial donations may be made to the Byers Children Trust Fund, First Fidelity Bank, Brookhaven Office, P.O.
