Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church with Cal Brannon officiating. Burial will be Thursday at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Va. Mayes Funeral Directors in Norman is handling arrangements. ================ Winston Earle (Win) Cochran 06/22/03 Winston Earle (Win) Cochran, 79, died Thursday, June 19, at Norman Regional Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman with Cal Brannon presiding. Interment will be at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Va., at 10 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Mayes Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements. Dr. Cochran was born Aug., 17, 1923, in Stark, N.H., the oldest of six children born to Cleo and Marguerite (Abbott) Cochran. He grew up in northern Vermont where his family had a dairy farm. Dr. Cochran attended the University of Vermont and the University of Vermont Medical School, from which he graduated in 1948 with a specialty in pediatrics. In 1950, he married Gloria Lee Grimes, also a pediatrician. After serving as an officer in the Army at Tokyo General Hospital during the Korean War, he opened a practice in Silver Spring, Md. Together, Win and Gloria turned their professional interests to helping children with disabilities, and contributed to significant advances in their treatment. In his medical career, Dr. Cochran served as director of the Child Development Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and professor of pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He was a member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman. Dr. Cochran was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers and an infant son. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; daughter, Edie March-Matthews and husband, Bill Matthews, of Norman; son, Winston Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Houston; son, Donald and wife, Joan, of Chesapeake, Va.; son, Robert of Hagerstown, Md.; grandchildren Andy and Becky Marsh; Paul Cochran; Jennifer, Elizabeth and Daniel Cochran; a brother, Ronald of Morrisville, Vt., and many nieces and nephews. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Cleveland County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/cleveland/cleveland.html
