Clifton Rufus C. Clifton, 71, of Norman, Oklahoma died Friday, October 21, 2005, at Baptist Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a year battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 24, 2005, at McFarlin United Memorial Methodist Church of Norman with Reverend Phil Fenn officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman. Pallbearers will be Jeff Young, Steve Burrows, Mark Moshier, Jay Burrows, Gary Young and Jason Moshier. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma. Rufus was born January 26, 1934 to John D. and Ila (Scott) Clifton in Reagan, Oklahoma. Rufus spent his early childhood years in Reagan. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1952. He served his country in the United States Army before attending East Central State University where he received his BS in History. Rufus married Wanda Young on June 25, 1959 at the Fitzhugh Methodist Church in Fitzhugh, Oklahoma. They moved to the Norman area in August of 1961 when Rufus began his career as an Item Manager at Tinker Air Force Base. Rufus always had a love for the outdoors. His passions were bird and deer hunting and fishing. He and Wanda, and children, Shane and Shari had many fun times together camping. He was a lifelong member of the National and Oklahoma Rifle Associations and was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Moore. He loved his family and grandchildren very much and will be greatly missed by all of them. Rufus was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ila Clifton. Survivors include, his wife, Wanda Young Clifton of the home; son, Shane Clifton and wife Mandy of Kingfisher, OK; daughter, Shari Clifton and Carolyn Mahin of Norman, OK; and sister Diana Moshier and husband Glen of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Chelsea, McKenzie, Lettie and Brennan Clifton; 12 nieces and nephews.
