All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery--Shawnee OK Collin, Gwendolyn Margaret Francis Gwendolyn Margaret Francis Collin, 95, of Norman passed away Sunday, November 7, 2004 in Norman, Oklahoma. Chapel Services are Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Shawnee. Minister: Father Clark Shackelford. Cemetery: Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery Shawnee, Oklahoma. Funeral Home in Charge: Gaskill Funeral Home. Gwen was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania September 8, 1909 to Mr. Thomas William Collin II and Martha Stevenson Collin. It was 1910 when along with her parents she came to the young state of Oklahoma to settle in Shawnee. It was here she began her lifetime pursuit of education. She attended college at the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. Gwen also studied in Mexico and England. She received her Masters in Education from the University of Oklahoma. She used her education to maintain her independence and finance her love for world travel. She taught school and worked as an education administrator throughout Oklahoma, Maine, Alaska and Colorado before settling, in 1947, at Chico State College in Chico, California. When not teaching, Gwen was seeing the world, often saying she would step foot on every continent and dangle her toes in every ocean. And that she did. When Gwen retired in 1970 she returned to the family home in Shawnee. There she continued to work part time at Oklahoma Baptist University, St. Gregory University, and The Book Stall. Gwen was Episcopalian and a lifelong member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Shawnee. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Sidney Josephine (Billy) Collin, Jane Irene Collin Hartwell, a brother; Thomas William Collin, III. She is survived by: her nieces;Martha (Martie) J. Collin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kimberly J. Collin of Oklahoam City, Oklahoma; a nephew;Thomas W. Collin, IV of Kansas City, Missouri; and numerous first, second and third cousins of the clan Collin. The family wishes to thank; Alterra Clare Bridge Cottage, Grace Living Center, Norman, OK, and Good Shepherd Hospice for their care and companionship for Gwen throughout her long battle with Alzheimer's Diesease. In leu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the building fund at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
