All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Fort Worth Star-Telegram 4 Sep 2005 LJ Coney 1934 - 2005 LJ Coney, 70, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at a Paris medical facility. Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday in the LJ Coney Gymnasium in Roxton. Burial: Restland Cemetery, Roxton. Visitation: The family will receive friends at the gymnasium from 12:30 p.m. until service. Honorary pallbearers: all ex-students of Roxton and Pecan Gap schools and those who played basketball for him. LJ Coney was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Fairlee, Hunt County. He married Iris Ramsey Nov. 7, 1970, in Boswell, Okla. He taught school for 27 years, all but four being in Roxton. Other years included one in Saltillo and three in the North Lamar schools. He retired from teaching in 1984. The gymnasium at Roxton was recently dedicated to him for 47 years of unselfish service to the students and community of Roxton. He served as coach and principal at Roxton ISD. He was also mayor of Roxton for many years. He founded KBA, Inc., and was the inventor of the "Korney Board," which forever changed the game of basketball. Survivors: His wife, Iris Ramsey Coney; daughter, Kenda Pickering and husband, Michael and their children, MiKyla, Carley and Cable, all of Paris; sons, Craig Reed and wife, Andrea and sons, Will and Connor, all of Dodd City, Jeff Reed and wife, Cathy and their sons, Daniel and Dane, all of Roxton; sister, Jean Parker and husband, Richard of Pasadena; brothers- in-law, Lucky Ramsey and Zoel Ramsey and wife, Mary, all of Powderly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Cleveland County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/cleveland/cleveland.html
