Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Norman with Reverend Drs. Bob Rice, Barbara S. Boyd and Tom W. Boyd officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home. Ed Carter was born May 6, 1929, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Lucile and Edwin Carter. He received his B.A. in History and B.A. in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma. He also received his M.S. in Mass Communications and Journalism and Ph.D. in History from Oklahoma State University. Ed enjoyed a long career in journalism. He spent fifteen years as City Editor of the Lawton Constitution. He was Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma, retiring in 1988, as Professor Emeritus. His key publication: "The Story of Oklahoma Newspapers" was published in 1984. While at OSU, he was Assistant Professor of Journalism and faculty advisor to the Daily O'Collegian.. While at OU, he was chairman of the Publications Board and advisor to Sigma Delta Chi. Ed was proud of bringing OU journalism students into the electronic age with the introduction of word processors. Ed Carter and Sue Huser met as students at OU when Ed worked on the linotype and Sue was editor of the Oklahoma Daily. They have been married for fifty-two years. In his younger days, he loved to play tennis, go jeeping in the Colorado mountains and fly fishing. Ed was an ardent fan of OU sports. He and his wife support the arts of Lake City, CO, where they have lived part time since 1976. As a history buff, he loved old movies and western history. He also enjoyed photography. His enjoyed the wildlife and mountains of Colorado. He attended First Presbyterian Church of Norman and Community Presbyterian Church of Lake City, CO. Ed served during the Korean War. Ed Carter was preceded in death by his parents and twin, Lorene Adams. Survivors include his wife, Sue Huser Carter; two daughters, Dana Carter Christian and husband, Dale, and Karen Carter Shaw and husband, Roy; two siblings, Wanda Stolzenburg and her husband, Bill, and Wayne Carter and wife, Donna; and four grandsons, Kevin Edward Christian, Jason Benjamin Christian, Roy Gordon Shaw (IV) and Bradley Carter Shaw.
