Dean was raised in Cheyenne until he went into the Army after his junior year of high school for a short tour of duty and then re-enlisted in the Air Force. His career took him many places- Japan, England, Morocco and they lived in Montana, Wyoming, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida; but like most Okies his love of the state brought him back to the Oklahoma City area in 1972 where he made his home. Although his job required that he live in cities, the cowboy in him never left. Dean was an avid golfer, wildlife enthusdiast, and family man. He and Betty traveled to many places to play in couple's golf tournaments.
