All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Harold Davis 06/20/03 Harold Davis, 76, of Norman died Wednesday, June 18, at Norman Regional Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with the Rev. Mark Fulks officiating. Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman is handling arrangements. Mr. Davis was born March 13, 1927, in Gate, the youngest of five children born to Oren and Clara (Wilborn) Davis. He grew up helping with the family dairy business. He joined the Navy and was a medic during the Normandy invasion. After the war, he worked at various Naval hospitals, including Norman, before being honorably discharged in 1947. While in Norman he obtained a pilot's license. He returned to Gate after being discharged and finished his high school education. He won the Oklahoma Farmer's Union public speaking competition and competed in the national finals in Washington, D.C. He married Luetta "Sue" Blankenship June 11, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They lived briefly in Kansas City, Mo., before moving to Wichita, Kan., where he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company. They moved to Laguna Beach, Calif., to work for the Hollywood stunt pilot "Paul Mantz." They moved to Norman in 1966. He worked for Airman Inc. at Max Westheimer Airpark before retiring in 1989. After retiring, he was a volunteer for several organizations including the Cleveland County YMCA and RSVP where he received numerous awards including volunteer of the year. He enjoyed fishing and flying radio-controlled airplanes but most of all he loved people. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and a sister. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Sue of the home; son, Dale and wife, Adrion Davis, of Norman; daughter, Brenda and husband, Steve Keene, of Norman; grandsons, Thomas, Jeffrey, Jason and Devin Davis and Bradley Whitehead; and many friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at the Cleveland County YMCA, 1801 Halley Ave., Norman, Okla., 73069.
