All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Resthaven Memory Gardens--OKC OK Norman Transcript 09 Sep 2003 Crumes Herbert Dunn Crumes Herbert Dunn, 84, of Norman died Friday, Sept. 5, at home attended by his family. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Primrose Chapel with Bob Willis, Hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City. Primrose Funeral Service is handling the arrangements. Mr. Dunn was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Burkburnett, Texas, to Charles C. and Nancy L. (Taylor) Dunn. He moved to Oklahoma and married his college sweetheart, Ruth Adele Dunn, July 3, 1942, just prior to serving in the Coast Guard on the USS Sheliak during World War II. Upon returning, he opened the first Dunn’s Dairy Queen in Norman and eventually expanded the franchise across the state, serving communities in Oklahoma City, Chickasha, Guthrie, and elsewhere for nearly 45 years before retiring. He was also an active member of his community, serving as mayor of Norman in the 1970s, as well as being a lifelong activist for the Democratic Party. Friends and family members note the greetings he always kept on his answering machine, "And don’t forget, vote Democratic," and "Go OU." He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Adele Dunn, and a son, David Crumes Dunn. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Diane Dunn; five grandchildren; five great- grandchildren and cherished friend, Lea Miller.
