DORRANCE EARLY CITIZEN DIES Came to Oklahoma in 1887 and Filed on Claim--Resided in Norman since 1899 Mrs. Mary E. Dorrance died at her home, 209 West Tonhawa Street, Sunday, Feb 26, age 79 years, 7 months and 22 days. Paralysis was the cause of her death. She was the daughter of John R. and Lucretia Hallowbaugh Riley. She was married to Henry B. Dorrance in Stark Co, IL. Mrs. Dorrance was born in Milwaukee, Wis., July 4, 1842. She came to Pucell in 1887, and when the country was opened to settlement in 1889, she filed on a farm near Lexington, where she made her home for ten years, coming to Norman in 1899. Mrs. Dorrance took an interest in civic affairs of Norman and gave her support to questions of improvement in all lines. She found time to devote to her flower garden, and usually had flowers growing and blooming winter and summer. She was a prosperous business woman and gave her personal attention to her business affairs. She was strong and active in mind up to the time of her death. Mrs. Ed P. Engle, who resides on North Santa Fe avenue, is the only child that survivies Mrs. Dorrance. A son Lem Dorrance died in San Carlos, Nicaragua Jul,y 14 1921 and Mr. Engle is there now looking after the estate. It is thought that worrying over the death of her son hastened the death of Mrs. Dorrance. Funeral services were held at the family residence at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 28, conducted by Rev. F. M. Warren. The body was placed in a vault at Meyer and Myer's undertaking parlor where it will remain until the snow storm is over.
