Oklahoma(no children) from an unknown Tulsa, Oklahoma newspaper dated Mar 6, 1962, Tues NOBLE RITES FOR PIONEER - Cherokee Strip Settler Dies Here Services for Charley Marion Hobaugh, 95, of 1033 N. College Ave., who settled part of Oklahoma Territory in 1877, will be held Wednesday at Noble. Hobaugh, who herded cattle and sheep at the age of 10 in the Cherokee Strip and who settled near Noble when Oklahoma was opened for homesteading in 1889, died Monday in Tulsa. A native of Davis (Daviess) County, Missouri, Hobaugh's mother died when he was 4. He left home when he was 10 and worked as a cowhand and sheep herder south of Arkansas City, Kansas. Hobaugh came to Tulsa in 1928 from Claremore, where he had lived 10 years. At Noble, he operated a general merchandise store, grain elevator and cotton gin before moving to Claremore. In Tulsa, he sold real estate, operated a restaurant at 1515 E. Admiral Blvd., and operated an apartment house until he retired in 1943. Surviving are the widow, Alice; seven sons; Lawrence Hobaugh, Norman; Ed and Bill Hobaugh, Claremore, Charley Hobaugh, Jr., Noble; Stacy Hobaugh, Hesperia, California; John Hobaugh, Ozona, Tex.; four daughters, Mrs. Stella Eskew, Barnsdall; Mrs. Ruby Humphrey and Mrs. Elsie Patterson, Bartlesville; Mrs. Ruth Lee, Hollywood, Calif.; 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. The Fitzgerald Funeral Home here has sent the body to the Primrose Funeral Home, Norman. Sarah Woodley Weaver and Charles Marion Hobaugh are the great grandparents of the NASA astronaut Charles Owen Hobaugh, pilot for space shuttle Atlantis STS-104 which will be launching no earlier than July 12, 5:04 a.m. EDT.
