Jo was born September 5, 1927 in Jonesboro, AR. She attended Classen High School in Oklahoma City graduating in 1945 then went on to receive her Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma University. Throughout her career as a teacher, her passion for teaching led her to attend summer school to complete a Masters Degree in Humanities. As an educator, Mrs. Jackson's classes were tough but there was always a waiting list to be in her History, English and Political Science classes for high school students throughout Oklahoma including Guymon, Ardmore and Moore High Schools. Jo began her professional career as personnel manager at Browns' Department Store. She was most proud of her work as a forerunner in Oklahoma of the Gifted and Talented program with Advanced Placement for high school students. She felt that education must be there for every child to reach their unique success. She also worked with young people as District Chairman for the Yucca Girl Scout Council in Guymon, Oklahoma. Jo is a member of the Tri-Delt Golden Circle, a Sustaining Member of the Oklahoma City Junior League and has served as an alumna advisor to various other social and civic organizations to which she belonged. Jo had a great passion for the arts. She and faithful companion Bill Cavaness loved to dance and rarely missed the symphony or theater. She also loved playing bridge with friends and traveling to fun destinations with her family. At Thanksgiving this year, Jo enjoyed a family reunion with all her children in San Luis, Obispo. On a visit to Oklahoma City in 1994 Jo, Leslie and her life partner, Dale Chihuly, began the dream of a landmark Chihuly piece in the new museum. Their dream culminated in an exhibit which has achieved record attendance and will likely become a permanent exhibit. It is a perfect family tribute that Dale, Leslie and their son, Jackson, are gifting a Seaform in Jo Jackson's name at the museum. Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Hughes, who was a wonderful husband and companion. Previously Sam Mattison, Royal Jackson and Hugh Harman. Jo is survived by four children and six grandchildren: Ray and wife Colleen Mattison (Jimmy, 14 and Mark, 12), San Luis Obispo, CA; Mark and wife Kris Mattison (Nathan 22, Chase, 22 and Ali, 17), Oklahoma City, OK; Leslie Jackson and Dale Chihuly (Jackson Chihuly, 5), Seattle, WA; and Julie and husband Ben Sistrunk, Nashville, TN.
