Lemming age 84 of Lexington was called home to heaven Wednesday, January 15, 2003. She was born on September 29, 1918 in James County, Texas to Henry Lawson Hager and Eunice Jane (McAda) Hager. She grew up in West Texas and later moved with her family to New Mexico. LaVerne met a handsome man from Oklahoma by the name of Orin C. Lemming who was working in the oil fields of New Mexico. They were married on October 19, 1935 in Eunice, New Mexico. They were married for 57 years until the Lord took Orin home to heaven in 1992. They moved to Oklahoma in 1941 and raised their family in the Capital Hill area of Oklahoma City. LaVerne worked as a cashier for 24 years at John A. Browns Department Store. They moved to Lexington in 1974 and joined the First Baptist Church of Lexington. LaVerne enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting and most of all raising her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and most of all just wanted to serve people. She loved everyone she came in contact with her entire life. She is preceded in death by: parents: Henry Lawson & Eunice Jane Hager; sisters: Ima Faye Craig & Johnnie Westbrook; brother: Clyde Hager. She is survived by: daughters: Glenda Griffith & Fred of Irving, TX, Barbara Cleveland & Bobby of Lexington; son: Thomas 'Tommy' Lemming & Pat of Longmont, Colorado; brothers: Bob Hager & Bobby of Texas, Elden Hager & Faye of Kermit, Texas; sister: Marjorie Bell of Lewisville, Texas; grandchildren: Rob R. Cleveland & Jillian, Caron Harvey & Mike, Frank Andrew Griffith & Danna, Rod Cleveland & Christine, Rebecca Griffith, Stephanie McCown & Scott, Ricky Lemming; great grandchildren: Clancey, Cole, Caden, Kenady, Corbin, Harrison Quinn, & Camden Cleveland, Mackenzie Harvey, Evan, Alex & Caroline McCown and Sarah Jane Griffith Cherino. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 18, 2003 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Kirkhuff, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Lexington, Oklahoma, officiating. Eulogy will be by her grandson, Rob R. Cleveland. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City with Bro. Don Demeter, Pastor, Grace Community Baptist Church, Oklahoma City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at the First Baptist Church in Lexington. Arrangements by Wilson Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
