Michael, 60, of Norman, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at Integris Baptist Medical Center after a long and courageous struggle to recover from lung transplant surgery. He was born January 5, 1942, in Peoria, Illinois, and was raised in Evansville, Indiana, where he graduated from Bosse High School. He moved to Norman in 1960, where he attended the University of Oklahoma and obtained a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering, which he then made his lifelong love and pursuit. His first employment in the industry was in the field with Lonestar Oil, after which he worked as an engineer with Standard Oil of Ohio and then as Vice President of Lobar Oil Company. Since the early 1980s, Forrest was an independent petroleum consultant, and during this time has also been President of Bluffton Exploration, Inc. and of Sentinel Petroleum, Inc., and Manager of Forrest Financial Group. Forrest was active in the Society of Petroleum Engineers for over 30 years, and in the Explorations Managers Group. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Norman for many years. Forrest was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Michael. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Shively of Evansville, Indiana, by his uncle, Jim Richards of Lafayette, Indiana; his daughters, Michele Ritchey of Olathe, Kansas, and Marcy Reeb of Naperville, Illinois; and by his four granddaughters, Julie and Macy Ritchey and MacKenzie and Caroline Reeb. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, August 23, at Mayes Funeral Home in Norman. The family will be present from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. for visitation on Friday. Graveside Services will be 9:00 a.m., Saturday, August 24, at IOOF Cemetery in Norman. Funeral Services will at 10:00 a.m., August 24, at First Baptist Church, 211 Comanche in Norman, with reception to follow the service. Donations may be made in the name of Forrest R.
